We arrived at Sydney only half an hour late, and the Qantas staff assured me that it didn't matter how long it took to get through customs, I would just be moved to the next flight to Brisbane if I missed the one at 8. There was a very helpful salesman at the duty free shop (who was getting commission I'm pretty sure) so that was quick, but by the time I got through the very busy customs and to the domestic transfer desk, I was too late for the 8am flight.
I wasn't sure I was hearing correctly when the check-in lady said that the next flight she could get me on wasn't until 1pm! I know it's Easter weekend and really busy, but that was a whole 5 hours away
I got the free transfer to the Domestic terminal and tried to find out if there was any chance of getting on an earlier flight there as well, but there wasn't. I also tried to get into the Qantas Club with my sob story, but they wouldn't let me in there either. There aren't all that many shops or anything, and I had my duty-free shopping and the heaviest laptop in the world with me, so I just sat around and read for 4 hours with a Gloria Jean's mocha caramelatte (mmmmmm) and tried to stay awake.
The most annoying thing was that planes to Brisbane leave every hour. When they started calling for missing passengers I considered going and begging for a seat, but I guess my luggage might not have ended up in brisbane with me so I just stayed put. Eventually 1 arrived and after waiting around for another couple of passengers who hadn't shown up (ahh the delicious irony) we were finally heading for Brisbane.
