I FORGOT to mention ion my last update about how the pilot that flew us from Rurrenabaque back to La Paz scared the crap right out of me!! I am not a religious person so for someone to make the sign of the cross, before he started the decent, well, I thought we were about to die!! Andre calmed me down by reminding me about the number of devout Catholics that are here in South America!! And I thought we were going to die!!! AHHHHHH!!
We came to Oruro, which is only 3 hours south of La Paz the day after we got back from the jungle. We were looking for a place to celebrate Carnival and apparently , Oruro has the second best after Rio. And that includes the prices, which we quickly found out! The hostels that were going for $8 a night, were now going for $100/night and you had to pay for a minimum of 3 nights!! We decided, after searching around for 2 days, that we would do it up in the future in Rio and pay those prices there. We were not going to pay $100/night and have to deal with a common bathroom! RIDICULOUS! Plus,we weren't really sure what to expèct here and it's well known what to expect in Rio. So we passed on the event in Oruro.
The town itself was small, we bought a couple or crazy toques and we called it a time. We also saw a lot of the parade/procession/ practice the night before the actual Carnival in the main square, we got water bombed and foamed, had dinner, which was very difficult to find a decent place, and we bought our train ticket to get us to Uyuni.......a little further south.
