Lima, Christmas, new years and onward!!!

Text written in: English

We booked the Cruz del Sur bus back to Lima for Dec 14th , as soon as we arrived in Huaraz town to be sure to get seats.  Although about 50% more expensive that other buslines, Cruz del Sur is nothing special.  The food is worse and the service is terrible and the driver is an absolute maniac - a drive reminiscent of our travels to Thailand!  I woke with terror clutching onto Andre thinking we were about to drive off the mountain side!  It was horrific!

We arrived back in Lima at 5am and went straight back to Loki hostel.  We had a reservation for the next 3 weeks, quite a long time, we know.  We had wanted to spend Christmas and New years in Cusco instead, but they were packed and staying there would involve us moving from a dorm to a private room and back again several times.  So we thought we would treat ourselves and buy a gym membership for Gold's Gym!  During our last couple of weeks we have been diligent and only sleep, eat and go to the gym.  Although there was a brief break during the Christams holidays for recovery!  We bought ourselves new sneakers and have made the most out of our break here in Lima, actually in Miraflores.  The grocery stores here are amazing and not unlike the Capers back home.  So everyday after the gym, we stop in for fresh produce, steaks etc......  And no matter what we buy, including wine (for $3 a bottle), we never exceed $12 at the grocery store.  This includes great cheeses, breads, Italian meats, you name it!  We have been spoiled again!!

I celebrated my birthday here at the hostel where we stayed up at the bar until 4am until we made a run to the Mc Donalds just across the street.  We celebrated Christmas with friends we made along the way and people who are also doing the same thing we are, just waiting for the holidays to pass by so that the travels won't be so hectic.  We went to the stores here and bought bag fulls of toys to donate to a local village for Christmas.  Loki put on a huge Christmas feast with turkey, ham, potatoes, potatoes and potatoes - apparently there's something like 1000 varieties of potatoes here so they make use of them every way imaginable!  We sat 20 or so people at a long table, others sat at more tables here and there, they had a Christmas tree and played carols.  There was a brief time when it felt like Christmas, but it still wasn't the same.   New Years was a blast too!  The longer we stay here, the more we get involved as though it's our party!  We started decorating at 3pm, and it was a perfect party layout complete with yellow everything!  Apparently, yellow is for luck and the street vendors take part and sell yellow panties everywhere for a lucky new year.  There are red ones too - wear that for the red-hot sexy new year!  We made jelly shooters, they had bubbly at midnight and the table was filled with finger food and hats and glasses and sparklers.  A great time with a ton of friends!

Now that the  new year is here, we realize that we have to move on - and fast!  So that's why I have finally caught up on my blog......  Where did the time go??.....  We need bus tickets, hostel reservations all the same stuff and I still only have limited Spanish!  We're coming home sometime this year and we have much more to see, but wow, do we feel the crunch time now!

Ok, so now that I have let you all know where we are in the world, you guys can stop freaking out that we have fallen off the face of the planet......sorry that it took so long!

Hope you all had happy holidays!
