Back to Jodhpur

Text written in: English

Jodhpur was only supposed to be a stopover for 24 hours before moving onto Ajmer but as luck would have it, that just wasn't the plan after all - it was 3 days. Once we escaped from Jaisalmer and arrived back in Jodhpur, Andre came down with a bug, but much more quickly and more severe than the one I had a couple of days ago.  Fever of 104F, chills, nausea, diarrhea and since it was so sudden, I of course, expected the worst - malaria, where you have 24 hours to catch it and treat it.  Treatment we had, but we didn't want to misdiagnose either.  Not having any contact to call, we decided to wait it out.  Thankfully everything turned out fine and Andre recovered in 36 hours.

But the one thing that would have been great to know beforehand is - what IS the normal body temperature supposed to be???  And what is it in both Fahrenheit and Celcius???  These are things a person shouldn't be trying to guess at and then do the math to convert during a stressful time......  Our digital thermometer was Celcius and thankfully Lonely Planet had a conversion equation into Fahrenheit although I was only guessing that 104 sounded high from old TV shows and wasn't 37.2degC the normal body temperature??  AHHHHHHhhhh!

I think the one thing that really upset us the most here is the hygiene factor.  Especially since traveling here in India, we have increased our level of acceptance for places to eat and still have had bad luck.  There are flies constantly swarming everywhere we go due to the never-ending supply if cowshit from the never ending supply of cows lining city streets everywhere.  This is another huge reason why we eat only once a day, the flies are horrible until after sundown and there's nothing more nauseating than having 10 flies land on you and your lips and your food while you're trying to eat.  Sounds fun, huh?  Believe us when we say that we have worked very hard to describe this scene as pleasantly as possible.  And all this seems a lot worse to those of us who have watched the OLN program on flies, their mating habits and what they eat and what they transport to your food from their last "meal".

Anyhow, as we chew another 2 Immodiums before our next trip, we find ourselves rifling through our first aid kits looking for more and wishing we had found a mother-load, industrial-sized supply before we left.....
