Hola!!! Oh My God…. Have I told you how much I love Espana?? Well I love Spain!!! It would have to be in the Top 3 on my 'Favourite Countries Ever List'.....
An early morning start saw me boarding a plane for Barcelona. After a no drama few hour flight I arrived in Barcelona and proceeded to get on the bus to my hotel and catch up with Alison and her mate Laura. We had booked into a hotel just of the Grand Via, so nice and handy to all areas. It was great to see Big Al again and hear all about her Europe adventure….. After a bite to eat we headed down the Grand Via for a spot of shopping, people watching and random strolling…. Barcelona is such a great place. The buildings and architecture are amazing, so much detail on every building, each with its own meaning or story. The Grand Via was a great place to watch people and there was a street performer every few metres, from a gold statue to Michael Jackson impersonator to dancers, some were amazing but others were pretty average and just seemed to be bums trying to make a few easy dollars!! Dinner time is quite late in Spain so we ended up having tapas and Sangria about 10pm…. Love tapas…. We had found a great market the day before so headed down there for breaky before starting the bike ride. This place was great, cheap fruit, meats, fish and a great buzzing atmosphere…..A freshly squeezed juice was 1 euro and a fruit salad with every exotic fruit you could think of was 1.50 euro…. Awesome!!Next we did the Fat Tyre Bike Ride around the city. Great way to see the sites and fun at the same time. The guy that took the tour ended up knowing my good mate Jodie Linton because they had both lived in Kitz…. Small world hey!! Anyhoo the ride was cool, we visited most of the sites- Gaudi building, Palace, Beach, other old buildings, etc. We stopped at the beach for a few sangrias and a bite to eat….. not a good idea to have a jug of sangria then get back on a bike!! Oh well, made it back to the shop to drop the bike off in one piece and then head off for tapas…. Cute little place just off the square where you helped yourself to whatever tapas you wanted then they just counted up the toothpicks at the end to work out the cost. Walked around the shops for a bit then decided to grab some meat, cheese and rolls for dinner and head to the Palace and watch the sound and light show at about 9pm. There were hundreds of people gathered to watch the fountain light up in colours and the water move to classical music. After finding a small patch to sit (we had a few people trying to take over our turf) we settled in, made our rolls, cracked open the red wine and watched the display. Talk about Serenity!! On the final day we made our way to Gaudi Park. This place is awesome and was amazing to just walk around and check out all the mosaiced buildings. This man really did have a lot of artistic bones in his body…. Everything was so different and individual in its own way (see pics). A short metro ride to another Gaudi building before sitting down for another meal of tapas. My this was the best meal ever….. mussels, calamari, chorizo, patatas bravos, prawns, cheeses, etc…. YUM!!!!!! Last spot before we had to head for the airport was the cable cars taking us to the top of the hill (where Olympic Stadium, Castle, etc are). It was rather windy so the car was rocking a fair bit, which made the trip more fun…. The views from the car and also at the top of the hill were fab and a great overview of the whole city and coastline…. Next stop…… Madrid…… P.S. Did I tell you I love Spain!!!
