Another night bus!!!!

Text written in: English

Today we decided we would leave Olympos earlier than planned and head to the city of Antalya for the day before catching the night bus to Cappadocia. So we booked a private mini van to drive us the few hours as it was just as cheap as getting 2 buses. Ala had also decided he would come with us as he was heading back to Istanbul before going home. So another few hours sitting in a van getting top our next destination. We got dropped off at the local bus depot and booked our night bus to Goreme, Cappadocia. The bus would be leaving at 8.30pm and we needed to be back by 8pm. No probs, it was only lunchtime so we had heaps of time up our sleeve…. Caught the local bus into town and had a light lunch along the cliff. It was so hot and muggy that we walked along the street and checked out the dodgey shops before deciding we would just sit in a café and chill. The guys in the open air café rearranged the couches for us and we settled in. Kate and Ala played Backgammon while the rest of us played poke. Not with ordinary cards though, we were playing with cards that had naked men of all shapes and sizes on them, one of the waiters got an eyeful of the cards as he delivered a drink and had a laugh. He then toddled off laughing and said something in Turkish to the other waiters. Each one of them then came and asked us if we were OK for drinks, before walking off laughing….  This managed to fill in some time before we were having a bite to eat and heading back to the bus depot. We jumped on a bus that said it went to via the depot. Sweet, all good….. After about 30 mins we seemed to be heading in the wrong direction and nothing looked familiar…. Mike managed to ask a guy on the bus that spoke a bit of English if it went to the depot and how long…. Another 30 mins or so….. Oops it was already 8pm and the bus left at 8.30pm. Next stop we all jumped off the bus and looked around for a taxi. Our lucky day, a taxi man on the side of the road having dinner. We quickly asked him to drive us to the depot and all of us piled into the taxi, a few in the back of the van had to keep their heads down as we were over the number limit. Time was ticking and we were stuck in traffic…… Finally we arrived at the depot, gave the taxi man a round of applause and then ran to the check in counter. Here the bus driver was waiting for us and was just about to leave. 8.32pm we got there and quickly grabbed our bags, jumped on board, received a few daggers from annoyed passengers before we settled in and were on another bus to our next destination. We were at the back of the bus and it was very warm and stuffy, don’t think the air cond. came down that far. We all tried to sleep with a few spreading out on the floor, but it was too hot so we only got a small nap here and there. 8 hours of this… Awesome!!!  We stopped at a roadhouse about midnight and when we got out it was freezing… amazing change on temperature for a few hours of travel but a nice relief all the same.
