Once we got into Italy our first target point was Lake Como and a place called Bellagio. Little did we realise that it was along a very long, skinny, windy road. Sights were amazing but we were over it by about 45mins. It was 10 times worse than the Great Ocean Road!!! We decided to pull over and have a nap. We woke about 6pm, must have needed the sleep..... We got to Bellagio and it was well out of our price range so kept driving to a place called Lovere. We pulled into the lakes car park and decided this was where we would rest our heads for the night. After putting the esky in the boot, we rolled back our seats, got in our sleeping bags and drank a bottle of vino before going to sleep.
Waking about 8am, Carla bought a coffee (so we could use the toilets) and we headed to the supermarket to top up our supplies. Once again we got some yum ham, proscuitto, cheese and fresh bread. We also managed to get some plastic bowls from the deli so we could have our cereal in the morning..... Next target Lago Di Gado a massive lake in Italy that many people had raved about. Today's weather was quite warm, real shorts weather.... We managed to find a place on the Lake called Sirmoine that had an old castle on the water so checked it out. Was very pretty and looked much like the ocean. Lunch was home made gourmet rolls and red vino by the lake on our sleeping bags. Managed to have a kip in the sun as well... Ah the serenity.... Back in the car and we headed towards a town called Brescia. The trip was a very interesting one as we saw a girl on the side of the road with her what we thought was bathers, unusual??!! Now this is like a busy road but out amongst vineyards, etc so not a major highway. Another few kms and we see another girl, then another, and another and by the way it wasn't bathers but sexy lingerie and CFM boots. They were roadside sellers, selling themselves!!!! We finally got to Brescia and it was like peak hour traffic in downtown Melbourne. Madness, so we got out of there pretty quick and headed for a smaller town called Trento. The region was full of vineyards and slow tractors on the roads carting the grapes.....but very pretty all the same... Finally arrived in Trento and took 30mins to find the centre and that was only by chance and going down a bus lane and a one way street the wrong way!!! Decided we needed a wine and a real meal so went to an Italian restaurant where the waiter didn't speak English. I ordered shanks (as I saw someone eating them) and Carla ordered something random off the menu, when it arrived it was a fried egg, frankfurt, cabbage and a meatball in gravy!!! This town was pretty cool with lots of uni students and shops so we decided we would sleep around here and then check the place out the next day. We pulled into an apartment blocks carpark out of town a bit and decided this was where we would be sleeping tonight.
Another pretty good nights sleep for sleeping in a car. Saved ourselves a bit of money too and also got value for money on the car hire. Had some breaky in a carpark and Carla got a coffee (so we could once again use the toilet). Spent the morning shopping in Trento them made a cut lunch and headed towards the cable car that went to the top of the mountain. Ate our lunch while we took in the sites of Trento and soaked up the sun. By now we had been a few days without a shower but were feeling rather clean all the same!! Decided it was time to split from Trento so jumped back in the little Punto and headed towards Bolzano and then Innsbruck, Austria.
