New place, differant monkeys

Text written in: English

Last night we decided that we should start heading down the coast towards the islands and some snorkelling and ocean kayaking.  So we had our last lunch at Sophie's (the best damn Thai food you can find, and dirt cheap too) and went off to the bus.  We caught it just after it pulled out of the station and managed to hop on to the moving bus bags and all.

We arrived in Khiri Khan shortly after 1:30 and after a quick settlign down we were off towards another hill top temple.

This one is located in the town so we walked the short 20 min walk to the base of the stairs.  At the base we were greeted by a hundred or 2 hundred peaceful, calm and playful monkeys who gladly posed for us and let us pass within 6 inches of them on the way up the stairs.

Now walking around in 30+weather in 80% humidity is hard enough, so throw a couple hundred stairs to the mix, and well, it took us a while to get to the top.

After passing a friendly monk we made it the top and were greeted with an amazing view of the city and the beachline beside it, along with 3 or 4 amazing limestone peaks off in the distance.

We played around here for a bit but as it started raining we decided to decend into the monkeyness below.

After walking around town for another hour or so we caught up with another local night market that was just starting up, grabbed some great, cheap grub and headed back to the hostel.

I was feeling a little homesick so I went to the 7-11 across the street and picked up a box of chocolate chip cookies.  I don't know why I was expecting them to taste good, cause they didn't taste too off from the plastic they were wrapped in.  Oh well, at least now my body has its weekly filling of preservatives.

That's it for now, off to a new place tomorrow, hopefully for longer this time.

Pictures to come soon

We caught a sangthiew (sketchy 3-wheeler) to the base of the hilltop Temple...transportation in Thailand is always a highlight of your day no matter what you do YAY!!! more stairs The Temple, being a hilltop version, had countless number of stairs which forced our out of shape bodies to climb, note the monk in the back sweeping...monks rock One of the nicer sights we saw at the very top was this blossoming tree, quite pretty Khiri Khan is a coastal city that has 2 natural lagoons that makes for very interesting and pretty pictures. down in southern Thailand these cliffs are nearly everywhere around...so much rock, so little time Im going to take a guess and say that it was low tide...just a guess though A storm started to roll in on us and we got some good pics of it away in the distance, unfortunately we didn't make it home before getting thoroughly drenched More mountains in the distance Aja stops and poses at the top of the temple awwwwwww, thats cute Such a cute couple I thought this was cool. It was an old metal box inside the tempal. Pretty cool to think that that has been there for probably hundreds of years, maybe more OK, so the way up was tiring, now we have to go back down them all...the quads were definitly shaking by the last stair Great view of the city coming down and of another temple nearby On our way down it started raining, so we huddled with some monkeys waiting for the rain to stop. Not sure if she is protecting her baby from us or the rain...we like to think that it was the rain When we got down we went to the beach and took a look back up at the Temple. It's quite impressive how high up it is, the picture or course doesn't do it justice The local pier with all the cool Thai style fishing boats These mountains form a natural break in the lagoon and splits it into two lagoons View from the pier of the lagoon break
