well, folks, here it is. the one you've been anticipating. the chinglish entry.
now, i must preface this with a few things. first, i've had several
requests for photographs of various storefront signs with strange
english on them. so yesterday, i walked the length of one road between
school and home, and photographed every strange shop sign i saw.
second, some of you (maybe the less bright bulbs in the bunch) might be wondering what is chinglish,
exactly? well, chinglish can be any number of things... sometimes it is
a combination of chinese and english speech. sometimes it is english
spoken with a chinese thought process (or vice versa), and sometimes it
is the very strange/interesting/humorous english translations that
abound in various places throughout china.
the following is a collection i've been building since my arrival, and
these are the best of the best of chinglish displays i have seen. i
personally have photographed every one of these, and did not steal any
of them from engrish.com (which, if you haven't checked it out, you
must). i have seen every one of these things in person. i hope you
enjoy them. if an explanation of the sign's whereabouts is necessary,
you may find it as a caption under the photo.
cheers!
