Awful again

Text written in: English (UK)

Ter:

We had to spend another night in Guayquil, Ecuador's largest city, on our way to the coast. I'm sure there are lovely parts in this city but we've haven't seen any of them. It's a dirty hole of town. To make matters worse our hotel is like a prison from some bad sci-fi film, with cameras at every corner and motion sensor lights, so that every corridor lights up ahead of you and darkens in your wake.

The hotel rooms had no windows only bars on them so we spent the night watching Spiderman Returns whilst listening to Spanish Bart Simpson. Annoying and funny at the same time, imagine Toby Maguire ordering Duff beer in Spanish whilst fighting Dr Octopus.

Not on my top ten.

Georgi:

Ter is being kind. He feels that it's not fair to slate a city based on two separate nights spent there, only ever in transit.

But honestly, if Latacunga can be described as the armpit of Ecuador (also by me), then Guayaquil is unquestionably the asshole.

Having checked into our prison cell, we went once around our city block to see if we could find somewhere to have dinner. Ideally we wanted a cozy little hippie joint with wooden tables and a book exchange (the reading situation was getting quite dire). Instead we found a bakery selling doorstops masquerading as cake, a bar with nothing in it save a mountain of crates of beer and a woman with her tits hanging out dangling herself over an uninterested-looking, swarthy character and a restaurant where we had a passable plate of chicken and rice.

We couldn't have got out of there fast enough.
