Day 1
After arriving at Changi airport we took the efficient Metro to the required stop and after a brief spell of disorientation we found the hotel. We then went exploring Singapore on foot and I was very impressed by what I saw. We also had a drink at a bar on the waterfront but only one as it was almost 10 quid for a jug that contained just over 2 pints.
Day 2
Today we went to Sentosa Island just accross the bay from the Central Business District, we got there via cable car as it seemed to be the coolest option. Once we arrived we headed towards Fort Siloso a British fort built in the 1880's and used during the defense of Singapore in 1942. The place was excellent and one of the best presented museums I have ever been to, unfortunately the heavens opened and a thunderstorm was directly above the island so we could only see half of what this place had to offer. If anyone was watching the Singapore Open (Golf) it was taking place whilst we were here and was affected by the same thunderstorm, Mark wanted to go watch the golf but to be honest its not a sport I really want to watch live. After Fort Siloso we headed towards Underwater world which due to the high expectations from the advertisements failed massively to achieve its claims and unless you have kids it is not worth going to.
That night we headed out to watch the football and not knowing where the bars were we headed to the riverfront to watch it. We ended up watching the games in the pub which the Singapore Liverpool FC fan club is based and seeing as how they lost 3-0 to Everton it was pretty funny. We stayed there for Chelsea v Charlton and then United v Spurs and at the end of the night headed home with a very light wallet as it was nearly five quid a pint
Day 3
Today we headed to Orchard road and were greeted by many Louis Vutton, Armani and Channel shops none of which we could afford to buy from or were suitably dressed to enter, so we just wandered round the various malls looking in sports shops. I was looking for the new United shirt and thought it would be no problem finding one in Singapore as Mark reminded me one of Blacburn's anti-United chants is "pride of Singapore", but unfortunately while there Adidas seem to have supplied masses of Chelsea and Liverpool shirts Nike has done pretty poorly and I have not seen a United shirt anywere. That night we found a bar which had West Ham v Villa on and was only charging 2 quid a pint, result.
Day 4
We decided to head to Singapore Zoo and after a shirt metro and bus journey we arrived and at only about 12 pounds for both the Zoo and Night Saffari we were incredibly happy at how good the zoo was. The daytime zoo was brilliant with almost every animal you could wish to see, the animals were not kept in cages, but areas which were seperated from the visitors by a moat (the deeper depending on the danger). The nighttime Saffari was equally as good and you had the option of walking or getting a tram round the zoo, we opted for a combination of the two and had a great time seeing the Nocternal animals. Overall a brilliant day (we were there from 2pm to 10pm) and it only cost 60 Singapore dollars (20 pounds) including fees, transport and food.
Day 5
Today we went to a place called the "Battle Box", it was the place were the operations during the Japaneese invasion were directed from, the tour was very informative and although I didn,t feel it was as impressive as Fort Siloso I would still recomend a visit. At night we decided to head to The Long Bar at Raffles to get a Singapore Sling, we were expecting to have trouble getting in as we were wearing jeans but others in there were dressed more scruffily than ourself. I was a bit surprised when we walked in and we were stepping on peanut shells that littered the entire floor, we only had one drink there as a Sling cost $21 (7 pounds).
Day 6
didn't really do much just hung around before getting our flight in the evening to Auckland
