Miami

We flew out of San Jose after having to wake up at 4am to fly to Miami, tired but ready to have a quick explore. First however we had to deal with USA customs. Now our 1st time through was so easy we wondered what all the fuss was about.
We didn't get interrogated or strip search or anything but choose the wrong line. When we finally reached the officer after 45 mins, he immediately told us he couldn't handle the job as he had not slept for 3 days. He then proceded to fumble through the formalities. He stamped my passport, forgot to take my picture etc. Took Davids picture etc, then tried to do it again. When we told him her hadn't done my picture, he stamped my passport again. AND gave me entry clearance until September 2007! 12 months more than it should have said. He then tried to stamp my passport for a 3rd time before we stopped him and he waved up through. This guy was incompetant and I feel sorry for him, if he has insomnia, but he shouldn't be working especially at such an important job. I hope this doesn't cause problems when we leave
We then went to South Beach and had a look at the Art Deco buildings and Miami Beach. The buildings are pretty but look better in the photos as most needed a new coat of paint. I almost ruined my great zip off pants by sitting on a wall that was getting repainted! Lucky the paint was water based and came right out. We walked back up the beach which was ok but a bit dirty. The sand was course shell sand and the beach very long.
