Anyone for Tea?!

Text written in: English

So we spent 3 gorgeous days in Fort Kochin....that place was so peaceful i could have stayed for ever! It had absolutley loads of churches, and monuments on the island, and all the little lanes with thier palm treees and cute houses actually reminded me of sri lanka - i guess its the whole "island" feel....ah it was heaven. I think some pretty wealthy people live there judging by the houses, and whats more, we only saw one beggar there the whole time. And the only dogs on the island were pets - hardly any wild dogs at all - but the number of cats.....crazy!!!!  Its as if all the cats in India live there free from the wild dogs on the mainland. On the evening of the first day we went to see some traditional Keralen dancinng - all hand movements and eye gestures and crazy costumes (photos soon hopefully!) it was really interesting although the actual story they played out was a little difficult to follow but i think we got it in the end! The second day we hired 2 scooters to go touring round the island which was really fun, dirving down all these back lanes ...it did rain a little bit which was a bit annoying, but we found this great cafe for the nicest coffee i've had so far in India (they actually used cafetieres!!!!) it was great!!!!  There's so much English, Dutch, Portugese influence on this island it really doesnt feel like we're in India anymore!!!  The third day we went on a boat trip for the day on the backwaters and rivers of Kerala - it was so unbelievably peaceful and the scenery was just stunning. Every two seconds was another photo moment!!! We got to sail past all these tiny little villages on the river banks, watching the fishermen going out in their boats....ah it was definitely the highlight of the trip so far! They gave us the most amazing Keralen lunch on the boat  - the food here is definately the nicest i have tasted in India!!! We left early next morning to get a bus inland to the hills and tea plantations of Munnar. The scenery on the bus on the way was just awesome - huge dramatic hills, valleys and waterfalls. Wow!!!  We went on a walk yesterday round the local hills, but the sun decided to hide for the day the minute we left our guesthouse so that was a little disappointing. But apparently its been raining 2 days solid before we arrived, so in a way we were kinda lucky!

We had lunch at this amazingly cheap but brilliant restaurant where they dont serve you food on plates but on huge banna leaves from the forest. It was brilliant!! So much fun!!!  Of course i made lots of mess eating rice and curry with my hands again, but i think i'm getting better you know!!  Will probably forget how to use a knife and fork when i come home!!!

It gets a little cold here at night but thanfully our guesthouse has hot water  -this was the first hot shower i've had for the whole trip i tihink and i can honestly say it was the nicest shower i have ever had! I didnt move for about half an hour!!!!  Boiling hot water......ahhhhhh. Was damn cold again when i stepped out tho!!!

\We're going go up really high this afternoon to some place which is just on the border between Kerala and Tamil Nadu....there are suppossed to be awesome views from there so lets hope the clouds clear a little......!!!
