Heehee so every journey to and from work is an adventure......the times of sitting half asleep in the little fordka stuck in conservatively silent traffic with chris moyles in the background seem like an age away!
So last night my little scooty ran out of petrol on the way home.....the petrol light only gives like 2 seconds of warning tho, which means chances are it's a long walk to the nearest petrol station. Thankfully, 2 minutes pushing my bike up the main highway and a guy on a motorbike stops to offer me a lift to get petrol. I figured since he had a laptop and was dressed in a suit, chances are he wasn't gonna whisk me off to Dehli, so it was pretty safe. And the walk to the petrol station would have taken at least half an hour! Of course I have quickly learned in India to only accept phone numbers from guys - NEVER give them yours otherwise your phone will not stop ringing constantly for the next year. "friendship" out here has a slightly different meaning it would seem........Still, I got my petrol ok and was able to carry on my merry way home.
On the way to work this morning at the "pedestrian crossing"there's an elephant waiting for the light to go green, and then ambles across in front of all the traffic. and the really funny thing was it looked so normal!! A few minutes further down the road and there are about 10 people trying to push a bus (crammed full of passengers) that has broken down. India, you gotta love it!!
Last night most of the trainees went out to the Shisha Café as Daniel had decided to pay for everything to celebrate independence day in Nigeria ( or something along those lines...) We left for home around 12 when the first spots of rain started falling.....and even though it was just a 5 minute ride home by the time we got back we were absolutely dripping wet! It was crazy!! Luckily I was able to hide behind Abbas on the bike so part of me stayed dry but it made me realise I need to buy a big raincoat!!!
Last week I went to this homeopathic doctor as I had been off work most of the week ill, and there was a clinic just down the road so I thought it was worth a try. Also, Francis scared me by saying he thought I had malaria........! Anyway, it was a strange experience. After asking about all of my symptoms, and taking my pulse, he placed three small pieces of paper down on the table in front of him. The way he arranged them made me think he was about to do a Tarrot reading or something...! But then he opened up a draw and placed a spoonful of white powder on each of them. Aha!!! So it's cocaine I'll be snorting to make me better then!!!
After putting a drop of some liquid on each of them, he gave me one of them to eat and folded the rest up for later.
Well, I knew the Indians like their sugar.....but come on!!! I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any magic healing properties. Still, that's exactly what my medicine tasted of. I also got a tube of tiny little white pills which looked and tasted more like sweets - to be taken 4 times each day. After one day I stopped eating them.......they clearly had no healing powers at all! So I resigned to sleeping and letting whatever it was I had work itself onto someone else....incidentally Auragni got really sick this week which I really hope wasn't my fault.
