who books a himalayan flight known for its bumpyness on april fools day....?
off tomorrow to lukla, namche bazaar, gokyo lake, etc etc. plan is to trek for a month but maybe I'll get sick of an all-potato diet and hike out sooner. in honor of the (presumed) veggie life back on the trail, I ate my last pepper steak tonight.
have heard there's email in namche but not counting on it so likely not updating this blog for a while.
consider this - I'll be back for a few days end of the month b4 I fly to aus. any nepal tourist crap-ola you want me to buy? (prayer flags, buddha sculptures, hippie pants (heck, entire hippie wardrobe), paper lamps, pashmina shawls, handmade paper, etc etc.) think pier 1 imports and i can get it for loads cheaper. let me know!!
and yeah, this is it - the last month of the whole damn adventure. would be fitting to die in an avalanche, but lets hope not. yesterday walking around smoggy, dusty, loud, stinky kathmandu I actually got teary-eyed thinking how much I love everything about this travel thing and how much I'm gonna miss it.
but you've heard all this already. and if I focus on this too much, means I learned NOTHING in vipassana. the past is the past, the future is unknown. the only thing that matters in the present. so presently, i'm gonna buy a cinamon role, pack, and tomorrow start soaking up the heart of the nepali himalayas for a whole freekin month.
bttw - last night had dinner with pemba sherpa - guy who runs place I take my laundry - we've become friends in teh 2 months I've been here. well, he's in ktm going to school and started this laundry biz. his parents still live in a village & farm potatoes/corn. they barter this for the rest that they need (don't use money).
they tried to arrange a marriage for pemba with a girl he's known since 13. he doesn't like her and so far has avoided the issue and/or flat out refused. life in ktm means you probably find a love-match yourself, not from your parents. for now he's too busy and wants to finish school b4 he even considers this (so dedicated and serious!). he has an uncle living in colorado springs so has the chance to move to the US in 3 years. good news is he likes nepal so much he has mixed feeling about leaving so whatever happens will be good.
this dude is awesome - hard to imagine he's only 23. if he makes it to the US I sure hope he gets to meet you colorado peeps!
