my luck is changing

Text written in: English

my spirit must've found its way back cause as soon as I clipped off those strings on my wrists from the villagers, my luck really did change.

on the way out of the jungle, and thoroughly whipped from the last 3 days, I tried to keep my spirits up cause I planned to still hop a 8-20 hr songtau to the thai border. the dutch were dreaming about hot showers and warm beds but I was (trying to) save a little energy to keep this party going. but sooooo lucky for me, while I was asking around for details, this swiss guy overheard me and asked if I wanted to join a 2 day boat trip going that way instead.

this is ALL good cause this trip is what I originally wanted to do anyhow. it's even better because there are enough peeps to make it affordable and I actually DO get that day to recuperate and take a hot shower, AND he will loan me money. never mind that later I heard that the songtau isn't making it to the thai boarder anymore - the roads are washed out. so it's even luckier since this may be the only way out of here....sheesh & whew!

we wont leave until tomorrow so suddenly, I get that rest day afterall! (see? luck is TOTALLY different these days) and pone, our jungle guide, offered to take me around town in the afternoon. I spent the morning washing brown out of all my clothes then we ate noodles, went to this waterfall, and back to the dam I saw a few days ago. this time is was crazier than the last - flood stage, full of logs and debris, crazy guys at the top pushing logs over, crazy guys at the bottom pulling logs out (to use for firewood, etc). it was me and a bunch of locals and I could have watched all afternoon.

back at my guest house, I met this israeli guy - nachum - whose been traveling for 5 years and has no plans to stop. we both mutually understand 'nomad' and so had loads to talk about. plus I got him to join our boat trip so now our price is even lower.

our last night in luang namtha, we chow down our last decent meal for the next 2 days & he generously buys the beers. I had a serious jones for a few after the jungle stuff, but with my budget, there was no way. so I swear my life is filled with little angles right now.

but gotta enjoy the good life while I can, from what we've heard, the boat is uncovered and has no food stops. we'll see what comes of this...
