last days in viet nam

Text written in: English

a few last pics.

also a collage I did for carole before saying a sad hasta luego - tho NOT good bye. see you at the great wall someday!

while making the collage, was thinking of our days traveling together: jungle hikes, ha long bay, the sea, communism, asia, luck, quitting smoking, eagles, china, hello kitty, etc etc.

oh yeah, and checkout the soft sleeper I scored on the train back from sapa. there was much confusion at the station over the receipt I had from the hotel who swore up and down that they got me a ticket. this guy called around and I just kept hearing "oh? oh. oh? oohhhh. oh?" this probably wasn't going to be good. but I have faith in the asian way and knew to just hold on....there's a good chance it'll work out.

fially they hand me one of the tickets. the asain way comes through once again! I find my car, my bed, wow - I'm actually styled with glorious air conditioning and a soft sleeper!! in all that confusion, they gave me the wrong ticket (but I paid the cheapest price!). this is some seriously positive travelers karma.

I settle in and we immediately pull out of the station.  if I'd known the time, I could have added stressing about the train leaving before this ticket crap got sorted out. in reality, I was clueless it was so late (I don't wear a watch anymore.)

despite the good karma, had a fitful night of sleep - strange guy had a few questionable hand placements when he was getting out of his bunk. (ummmm.....you can use the railing, NOT my leg...) that forced me to sleep with one eye open all night. definitely a bummer, but at least nothing super-terrible happened. hopefully this lack of sleep will help me sleep on the bus to vientiene.
