hot hot hot!!

Text written in: English

whew - I see why tourist try to get here at the right time. must be 100/40 today, and yesterday, and the day before....

I didn't get to the beach in sihanoukville - after I made that post, a HUGE rain dumped on un for 45 minutes. not complaining tho. the next day we went snorkeling. saw cool fish and coral, got a nasty burn. the next day I hit the beach for a few minutes, but I always forget - I get bored just lying on the beach!

friday left for phnom penh. checked into my dorm for $1 a night (OK, had to tell you about that one - thats just stupid cheap). have been walking the boulevard along the tonle sap river. strange combo of beggars, buddhists & touristic restaurants. getting seriously hounded by tuk tuk drivers. here you dont even have to stop to get harassed. lord help you if you DO stop and pull out a map...oh yeah, and I saw a whole row of people with weighing scales here! they even have lights for when it gets dark.

went to the national museum for a crash course in angkor-period art. best thing was the room full of buddhas - no cameras allowed so I sketched for an hour. the heat finally drove me out. theres a hotel you can pay to use the swimming pool - so gotta check this out soon.

last night we hit the town (with rosie and doran - the scott and brit are still here too!), including the FCC club. linda and matt - we all had a toast in your honor! I can see why you love this place - it's such an oasis.

tomorrow I start really diving into the museums around the genocide of the khmer rouge. saw a movie today that was depressing as hell. astounding to remember the cambodians are only 30-some years out of that time....tempers everything you see in this city. and you cant help but be so happy with what theyve done - even despite the current corruption.

off to find grub - either indian or pho or something with coconut milk. I wish I was hungry all the time so I could keep eating all the time. food here is EXCELLENT!
