Rarotonga Cross Island Trek!!!

Some friends of ours at the hostel (becky and april) asked if we would like to join them on an island walk across the whole island through the BUSH! they mainly asked because mike is so strong and would prove useful!!!

We set of on the bus and got there at 10 am plenty of time!

It started on a 45 minute road and went in to a beaten track - then thistels and really tight muddy tracks with roots of trees to pull yourself up on! - not what we expected!

We met lots of mozzys and leeches on the way and after another 2 hours we finally got up to the needle (highest point 431 metres - 1400 feet) and it was a splendid view of the whole island, oxygen was low!

After a short rest and an apple and crisps, the four of us started the descent back down!

It was a long old struggle back down and its seemed to be going on for ever! we had to cross a stream 6 times, and unfortunately all the girls fell in, mikes skills had to prove themselves here!

It started getting dark, and we knew we only had an hour before complete darkness, and probably staying the night in the bush! so we picked up the pace, and reached the waterfall which meant we had reached our safe ending point! phew!

We seemed to have picked up a few bites on the way, but luckily no leeches stole our blood!
