In the summertime...

We arrived in Cairns yesterday and although it is winter it is their 'hot and dry' season. The weather never drops below 26 degrees and the total rainfall for the month of July is 4cm. Sounds lovely but unfortunately it has pissed down every second since we have been here - at least 3 times the usual rainfall for the month in about 36 hours.

Like our last visit to Oz, it seems that our Australia weather jinx has hit again!

Update...

There is not a lot to do in Cairns when the weather is bad (it is still raining although it is not that bad now). We have done a bit of shopping and went out last night with Phil and Rob. Before going out Phil asked Rob to cut his hair for him. I thought it was going to be well funny so got my camera out but somehow he did an ok job. It was most annoying. I was going to delete the slightly camp looking photos but thought I would put them on anyway.

We went to Gilligans and the Woolshed which are the two famous venues in Cairns. We had a good night, Rob got chatted up by a bloke.

Rob woke up the next morning covered in bites which we couldn't understand as the rest of us were fine. The next day he had even more (about 50 or so) so he went to the chemist. It turned out that his bed was full of bed bugs. His bites were all massive as unfortunately he has had an allergic reaction. We all therefore had to go through all of our clothes and bags to search for bed bugs as we were in the same room. The 3 of us were all fine but Rob had some in his bag which were probably from the clothes he was wearing in the bed. A big thumbs down to the Bohemia Resort. Our room was smelly, damp and full of bed bugs!

We have just rented a car to do the northern part of the coast and and will be driving down to Townsville/ Magnetic Island and plan to visit Mission Beach on the way back up to Cairns. The weather report looks like it should be good.

I probably shouldn't have said that.
