Shooter time

Text written in: English

Arrived in Nadi (pronounced Nandi) about an hour late. 3:30am - temperature 25 degrees Celsius. Took about an hour to get through customes and immigration, empty the cashpoint, cram 3 more B&H in and wait for the Club Fiji shuttle bus driver to sort everyone out. There were three of us so it took longer than usual. Club Fiji is about half hours drive from Nadi International Airport. I first visted it in 1997 during my year off from work - it was my first stop-off point during that year and I used it as a base for the next month, and returned again in May 1998. I also stayed there twice during my visit to Fiji in 2005 with the trip to Taveuni sandwiched in the middle. It's not a place with your classic long white beach, but it's fun and friendly and an excellent place to hang out for a few days on arriving in Fiji or before getting the long journey back.

Got checked in at 5am and had a snooze for an hour, then got into my usual Club Fiji routine by starting the day with 100 lengths of the pool. Best to get any swimming in early while it's quiet and the sun is low in the sky. Any later in the day and my bald patch goes red, then sore, then crispy - end up looking like some sort of Klingon. Had a shower then had a wander round and said hello to a few of the staff who I'm friends with. Had breakfast and read the paper, checked some flight prices with Tina the Travel girl then got down to the main business of the day - doing bugger all. The weather for the previous 2 weeks had been pretty stormy but today was bright blue skies - about 30-32 degrees. Sat and watched the tide go out, did some cloud spotting, then decided it was time for a beer so retired to the bar and drank some. Met a couple of lads from the UK - Matt and Russ. They're on a 4 month trip doing California, Fiji, New Zealnd, Australia and South Africa. By about 7pm I was feeling pretty knackered and was threatening to go to bed, but then the shooters draw started so stayed a bit longer. Good job too cos I won it. Then I won the 8 o'clock one. Then I won the 9 o'clock one. Was getting my second wind now so was the last person to leave at 11:30pm. Slept well.
