Pai deffinately falls under the catagory of tourist trap. Not the bad kind
mind you - the good kind. It draws in unsuspecting tourists - like myself and
the 2 friends my Chiang Mai I was travelling with - lulls them into a
pleasent state with cheap food & relaxing atmosphere, & then BAMM a week has
passed & you don't know what you did with it.
Pai doesn't really have anything special about it - I hate to say that the
economy is completely tourist based - but there is just something about this
sleepy little village which draws everyone into its snare. Firstly it is a
complete hippy village, everything is made of bamboo and dreadlocks seem to
be a way of life. Secondly- as if the hippies & bamboo huts weren't layed
back erough as is- the town is on a quiet little river out in the middle of
Thai rice fields, located in valley wedged inbetween the mountains of
Northern Thailand. And thirdly -as mentioned above & my personal favorite-
the food is good and cheap. So that is what I have been up to for the past
week: Pai, eating, drinking tea, going for walks, doing yoga classes, and
reading. It is the good life in Pai. There was also a Spirtual Film Festival
going on in one of the nearby Hippy Villages, so every night we had something
to do & talk about. Since then I have regretfully left thou, I am in Chiang
Mai again- for one night only- and then I am off to Loas 2morrow morning.
