Once again, we come to Jodhpur. See, we were kind of dumb when we first planned the trip, and instead of going from Jaipur to Bikaner, then Jaisalmer, then Jodhpur, we decided to do a triangle and split Jodhpur into two separate stays. I have no idea why. Rampant stupidity would be my first guess, but I have to conduct a few tests to verify.
Anyway, once we (meaning I) finished up with the rats, we headed back down to Jodhpur. Our hotel this time is in the old city, by Sardar Market and the Clock Tower. Our driver thought he couldn't drive in to the hotel (though the hotel owner later informed us he could and pointed to his own car), so we got a tuk-tuk in and spent most of the ride trying not to laugh at the ridiculousness of hurtling through tiny streets on a motorized tricycle with a garbage can nailed to it, essentially. If the tires had actually been rubber, they would have popped at the first pothole (of many) that we hit.
The hotel is quite nice, with a fantastic view of the fort up on the hill as you walk into the courtyard. Of course, our room is on the top floor. Now that our suitcases are extra heavy, we're always on the top floor. I hope herniated disks are covered under the porters' insurance programs. I hope the porters have insurance programs, for that matter.
So since Nichole didn't get to go to the fort last time (debilitating illness, for those who haven't been paying attention), we headed up there so she could check it out and I could take the pictures I missed when I ran out of film. I think I liked it better than she did, but she was entertained enough, and she also had her palm read. There was less pollution this time around, so you could see the blue buildings of the old city even better. It's really such a pretty place.
We tuk-tukked it on back to the hotel and I spent a frustrating hour or two trying to upload pictures from my digital camera while Nichole, I later learned, lounged in the room watching crap on TV -- "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" was on when I came in. The sad part? I can totally quote it. Even the songs. I am a sick bastard. The moon is full, and you're so glamorous....
Somebody slap me.
