For some reason I was always a bit tired in Peterburg, I know much of this was stressed. This was a bit of a do nothing day. I had found good information on some local markets that we could visit, Laura's father told her about a market that was prety far off the beaten path, and I was fine with this except that we didn't have a street address, collectively were a little nervous about taking the minvans, and didn't seem to know when the market was open. We were on the metro when Laura realized that it probably was not open and then I decided that we should head towards a park with a nice name. Laura had brought a huge detailed map of the city and it was at that point that we noticed a market symbol on the map and headed towards that through some neighborhoods that were a bit rough. On the way we saw a statue of Marshal Zhukov from WWII Fame. The market was pretty much bunk and shut down but we did find a good selection of produce and the gentlmen selling the produce had a bit of a turkish look to them.. and were constantly telling us how wonderful their produce was. We bought a bunch and Laura ate almost all of it. She thinks nothing of eating a whole kilo of cherries. But I didn't mind, I was merely suprised.
On our way to and back from the park we ran into what I would call a smallish foodstore with a ridiculous 3 cashiers. I would later learn that this was the template for all soviet grocery stores. And this is only twice the size of regular size living room. They do make good use of the space. I felt like we were causing trouble. And thats always a bit fun.
