On Friday morning, we got up fairly late, had our coffee, packed our stuff and headed to the bus station in Kuala Lumpur to catch the bus to Lumut. From there we planned to catch a ferry to Pulau Pangkor a small island just off the coast from Malaysia. When we arrived at the bus station however, we couldn't get any tickets to Lumut due the holiday season (the Chinese New Year again...). So we decided to go to Ipoh, stay there over night and go to Lumut the following day...
After four hours, we arrived in Ipoh and checked in to the West Pool Hotel, a very old Chinese guesthouse. It probably had seen better times in the 50ies but was now the cheapest place in Town (22 Ringit = around 3 GBP = 4.5 Euros per night per room). The owner could certainly compete for the title of the oldest man in Malaysia, which may give you a hint to what the room looked like... I quite liked it as it had its charm but Olga was more afraid of rats and other creepy animal and put her mosquito net up for the first time ! This time she would not get biten by anything...
In the evening we had some Hokkien fried noodles and Sugar Cane juice (tasted a bit woody...). Quite an adventure to order the food as we were the only foreigners around and hardly anyone could speak English...
The next morning we got VIP treatment to get into the bus, i.e. the bus driver let us in through the exit door at the back of the bus before anyone else could board it. Don't know why he did it but we wouldn't complain...
That's all folks... See you at the next stop on Pulau Pangkor..
