The Beach

Took a boat from Railay to Ko Phi Phi... we all got a bit sunburned on the boat (oops).  We arrived at the main beach and then hired a long tail boat to take us to Long Beach.  Found a bungalo for pretty cheap, but it involved all five of us (Melissa and Brad too) sharing a room.  We split the two single beds in too and some of us slept on the box springs.  The room was pretty big though... so not too bad.  The hotel was way on top of the hill though, quite a hike up some pretty rickety stairs.  Gotta get exercise somehow!  And there were the best shakes ever waiting at the restaurant at the top that we took full advantage of.  Beautiful view from way up there.  Ko Phi Phi is absolutely stunning with blue green waters and a really nice beach.  There is a really nice view of Ko Phi Phi Lei (where the Beach was filmed).  Paradise!  The first day we spent on the beach tanning and swimming.  We signed up for a sight seeing and snorkelling tour on the second day, but were told that it was way too wavy for the tour to run.  Well, we looked out to sea and it looked totally calm, so we hired our own boat.  We weren't about to leave without seeing where they filmed The Beach.  The Thai's were probably laughing at us stupid white kids, because when we got out there the waves were huge.  We went around the island and snorkelled at "the beach".  It was really cool, but on the way back we couldn't get around one side of the island because the waves were so big.  It was pretty crazy.  The waves were practically coming up over the side of the boat.  Melissa was smart and wore a mask for the ride.  But, we survived!!  Next time when a Thai tells us it is too wavy... we should probably just take their word for it.
