They actually use that as the official tourist slogan for Belize, you know.
We took a bus from Chetumal to Belize City in the morning and I think it was a good sign of things to come through Central America. The bus was an old American schoolbus - a bluebird. All of the seats were missing the foam, looking like somebody had gone to town with a big knife. The same could be said for the seat backs as well, which meant that when you sat down your knees pushed into the person´s back infront of you. The person behind you then returned the compliment. Also, less than half the windows came down and the bus was packed so it was hot to boot.
A journey of around 100km took over 4 hours and we got into Belize City mid afternoon. We were right to stay in Chetumal, because the place looked like a right dump. Tons of young, shifty looking rastas were hanging out by the bus station and as we got into our cab to take us to the water taxi terminal our driver got into an argument with one of them. Apparently the guy had threatened to pull a gun on him earlier in the day! And I always thought they were meant to be chilled out people.
Fortunately we got to the terminal in one piece, and took the water taxi to Caye Caulker.
