After long debates and attempts to get tickets out of Varanassi, we managed to take the train to Darjeeling. Yes, where the world famous tea comes from. It is very nice, there are constant clouds rolling right through town, and the weather is cool... ahhh, refreshing after months of heat. The people are mostly either Tibetan or Nepali, friendly, and they actually greet you without the intention of selling anything. Today in the morning, while we sipped tea from our hotel restaurant we could see the Khangchendzonga, the world's third (or fourth) highest peak. The culture is more Tibetan than Indian, so today we visited some really nice Buddhist monasteries, met very friendly people, ate pork dumplings and noodle soup for a dollar, and tomorrow we'll start a three day hike around the surrounding Himlayan hills. We'll download some pictures and tell more once we get back.
